Smoothie George's Cafe, Fodele.

Domenico Cafe, to give it its proper name, is set right in the heart of the lovely village of Fodele, just 30 minutes away from Heraklion in Central Crete. As you can see from the extensive menus, all your requirements can be catered for, from breakfast to a full greek meal, from a fresh orange juice to ice cream - and you MUST try the sheeps' milk ice cream made locally in Heraklion.  But best of all is the atmosphere - Smoothie George's provides both a meeting place for the international summer residents in the village, and a coffee or meal stop for anyone passing through.

(tip from a regular - try a couple of scoops of sheeps' milk ice cream accompanied by a raki* or two, as a night-cap!)

A warm welcome awaits you!

Smoothie George

The Domenico cafe is run by George Kondopodi (Smoothie George), his wife Eva and his mother-in- law Maria. Know as 'Smoothie' to distinguish him easily from the many other 'Georges' in the village, George is a very genial host with a international reputation for the warm welcome he extends to customers from all over the world. He speaks perfect English (and can get by in several other languages) and provides a veritable 'home from home' or 'local' for many of the visitors in holiday accommodation in the vilage.

He is also the local 'Fixer' - he may not be able to help you directly with any requirment or problem you may have, but he always knows 'a man who can' and is willing to help.

He is ably assisted by Eva (who also speaks perfect English) and Maria, who between them produce a stream of great local dishes from local produce.

*raki is a clear spirit distilled from grape skins, ubiquitous in Crete
